Neil Danehy Heart Walk Foundation

Coronary heart disease is the nation’s single and leading cause of death. This year, about 1.2 million Americans will have a first or recurrent heart attack. More than 900 Americans each day die from sudden cardiac arrest.
In July of 2005, a wonderful citizen, worker, and friend passed away. Neil Danehy III, VP and Chief Operations Officer of Eastman Credit Union, died suddenly from a heart attack.
Neil grew up in Texas, was an avid golfer, successful businessman, and a genuinely nice guy. Prior to joining Eastman Credit Union, he worked with Eastman Chemical Company for over twenty years. He was committed to his family, work, community and church. Neil was very involved in the community and served on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross and Downtown Kingsport Association. He was also greatly involved in St. Dominic’s Catholic Church. He is missed by all who knew him, especially his wife, Myra, and daughters, Rebecca and Leslie.
The 3K Heart Walk has grown over the past several years into a fitness walk that is enjoyed by people of all age groups and physical capabilities. In 2006, the walk was officially renamed, “Neil’s Walk”, honoring and memorializing Neil. Cardiovascular Associates, Eastman Credit Union, and Holston Medical Group have joined forces to promote healthy heart education and awareness of heart disease and stroke. 100% of the money raised for the Neil Danehy Heart Walk Foundation goes toward local programs.
